Less Income Tax. More Money in your pocket.
With our budget surplus, we should be giving the tax dollars back to working families. It needs to be more than just no tax on tips or overtime. Our legislators can go a step further, I will go a step further. No state income tax for families making under $125,000.
This would give back about $3+ billion dollars to Wisconsin families and would greatly help stimulate our economy.
In 2022 the state of Wisconsin brought in $8 billion in income tax revenue, with 37% of the tax revenue coming from individuals and households making $125,000 or less.
Even if only a third of the money given back to families is spent in the local economy, over $50+ million would be recaptured in state sales taxes. This also doesn’t account for local county sales taxes. This is a conservative estimation and also does not take into the effect of increased economic growth.
Fundamentally, I believe income tax is one of the most aggressive and least product forms of taxation since it’s typically tied to most people’s labor. Ideally I would like to see us transition to a capital gains tax to replace income taxes.
